Chrysler up production of Jeep Cherokee

Chrysler is increasing production on Jeep Cherokees ahead of sales in 2014, with the crossover car set to prove popular with all manner of drivers.

The Jeep was originally supposed to go on display in June for early investors to seek their teeth into, but initial setbacks during production meant time out was taken. This has ensured the vehicle is at its best and ready to go, but it also delayed its appearance in showrooms.

Cherokee’s original problem apparently lay in the calibration, affecting axles and the transmission. Although this is now fixed, around 10,000 models had already been produced, which further helped slow down the eventual release.

However, Chrysler have more than caught up on production, with a steady supply of Cherokees available and well anticipated. Given the speed of recovery involved, a lot of effort has gone into making sure the vehicle would be available around its planned September 30th deadline.

A quick look at the specifications of the 2014 Cherokee may show why demand is getting high. Whilst it has all the capabilities of a Jeep – seating, storage and off-road handling – it has more modern engineering down under the bonnet.

All three of the 2014 models – the Laredo, Limited and Limited Plus – offer a 24-valve V6 diesel engine. This has a maximum power of 144 kilowatts (188 break horse power) at 4000 revs per minute, rising to 184 kilowatts (247 break horse power) in the Limited and Limited Plus.

Can’t wait?

Of course, the 2014 Cherokee is not the only car making waves on the market. If you’re looking for something classic, yet different, you will struggle to do better than an iconic MPV Grand Voyager. This offers all the multi-purpose of the Cherokee with Chrysler’s personal touch of luxury.

Chrysler’s MPV offers a four cylinder engine with 16 valves. It’s smaller but it offers quite a kick – all the 2014 range promise 178 kilowatts at 3,800 revs per minute across the board.

With prices starting from £28,265, the Grand Voyager may prove a stable competitor, offering plenty of value for money.
