Nissan’s new small crossover has arrived. The jury’s still out on the Juke, though, because all we’ve been given is a solitary teaser shot. However, we already know enough about the car to gather that it’s going to break the mould when it’s unveiled in February – just like the Qashqai did before it.
Its official public debut is penned for March’s Geneva show, but February 10th is the date Nissan has given for its full unveil on the internet. For now we’ll have to make do with this teaser picture, which shows the upper half of a car that seems to share the Qashqai’s chunky exterior look, and looks to have retained much of the Qazana concept’s form – that’s the car it’s based on, which was shown at 2009’s Geneva show.
Nissan claims it will ‘inject some much needed dynamism into the small car segment, offering European car buyers an alternative to the traditional uninspiring small hatchback,’ which we think is a little harsh on cars like the MINI, Fiat 500 and Alfa MiTo. However, this car won’t compete directly with small hatchbacks like those, but rather the small MPV set that includes cars like the Vauxhall Meriva, Renault Grand Modus and forthcoming Kia Venga.
Details are scant at present, but as Nissan’s calling it a crossover we expect both front- and four-wheel drive, and power from familiar 1.5- and 2.0-litre diesel engines. It should seat five adults inside a relatively small footprint and provide ample boot space, while also serving up ‘agile handling and driving pleasure’, according to Nissan. Sounds like a grand old Juke, then.
