Dreaming of a better commute?

Are you dreaming of a better commute?

New research from Allianz Your Cover Insurance has found that only 15% of us who drive to work actually enjoy our commute.

We are blaming this on the poor state of our local roads and the amount of traffic. However, commuters are putting cheaper fuel on the top of their wish list of what would perk up our daily drives.

On average Briton’s commute 7000 miles a year to work –31 miles a day. Wrexham commuters have the longest commutes and travel an average 46 miles a day compared to those in Norwichwho have the shortest journey with a 19 mile round trip. People in Northampton feel they have the nicest drive to work whilst those in Coventry feel they have the worst.

For those of you that are down about commuting here are some top tips on improving your drive to work:

  1. Car share – one in 10 people said they wanted to car share. If co-workers could arrange effective car sharing it could have the dual benefit of brightening up the commute by having company and at the same time half the impact on the environment whilst saving money.
  2. Find a radio station that you particularly enjoy, perhaps one that has a daily quiz you can look forward to
  3. Create a playlist or mix CD of your favourite songs to sing along to and make the drive go quicker
  4. If traffic drives you crazy, try to leave a little early or even find a quieter but perhaps longer route to work
  5. Sign up to traffic alerts that you can check before you leave for work so you can prepare mentally for any delays or disruptions to your journey.

Allianz Your Cover Insurance are giving away prizes on their Facebook page to celebrate British commuters.
